CBCT Imaging, Viewing, Interpretation & Software Tools
December 11 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm PST$60 – $550
Presented by: Robert J. Timothy, DDS, MS
Length: 8.0 hours
Subject Code: 730 Oral Medicine, Oral Diagnosis & Oral Pathology
Cone beam computer tomography (CBCT) has added exciting imaging options for dentists. 3D imaging with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and other 3D modalities is the path to the future of dentistry for major improvements in radiographic diagnosis, treatment planning and digital dentistry. With the cost of CBCT imaging units dropping, many are adding these tools to their day to day patient diagnostics. CBCT technology has provided a low dose and relatively low cost means of providing 3D imaging of the maxillofacial region for dentistry and has the potential to become an essential component of a modern dental practice. However, many of us are not utilizing these CBCTs to their full potential due to a lack of experience and training.
This course is designed to familiarize each participant with the fundamentals of cone beam computed tomography technology and its many applications to dentistry. Radiologist, Robert J. Timothy, DDS, MS, will review CBCT imaging and interpretation via this “hands-on” virtual course. Participants will utilize the free Planmeca Romexis Viewer software to follow along on their laptops and complete exercises.
- Importing and Exporting DICOM® files to ensure compatibility between users.
- Discuss field of view options. What do we need for the task at hand? (Single arch, both arches, limited field of view, teeth discluded, teeth occluded, etc.)
- Guidelines on CBCT resolution. What image quality do we need for various diagnostic purposes?
- Understanding anatomy and pathology including evaluation of sinuses.
- CBCT liability.
- How to select and use an outside CBCT reading service.
- CBCT evaluation to diagnose endodontic lesions.
- Creating panoramic images from CBCT.
- Implant planning with CBCT.
- Evaluation of temporomandibular joints with CBCT.
Doctors will be given links to download Romexis Viewer software and practice files. This software will run both on Windows and Mac computers. It will not perform well on an iPad, tablet, smartphone or other such device. Software should be installed before coming to the course. Do not expect software installation support at the course. A mouse is necessary for manipulation of images. You will need to bring a mouse with you.
For the Friday, December 11th, 2020 course, doctors are encouraged to bring staff members for a morning of training that includes hands-on experience with the Romexis CBCT.
