Dealing with soft tissues and flaps design, reflection and closure is the most important key of success for any surgery. This course is designed for doctors who desire to learn the basics of oral surgeries and periodontal procedures. Starting with a review of oral anatomy, various flap designs and incisions methods, flap reflection and soft tissue management. Achieving primary and tension free closure is an art that will be learned in this course along with the suturing techniques and armamentarium.
The course will take place on three days with a full day of lecture, full day of hands-on and surgeries, and a third day with live surgeries.
Day 1 Friday, October 21st, 2022 | 8 am -5 pm
- Lecture by our guest speaker: Dr. Michi Katafuchi DDS MSD PhD
- Case presentation by full-time participants
Day 2 Saturday, October 22nd, 2022 | 7 am – 5 pm
- Morning session for hands-on exercises over pig jaws directed by Dr. Yassin
- Afternoon session for observation of a live surgery performed by Dr. Alan Yassin.
Day 3 Sunday, October 23rd, 2022 | 7 am – 5 pm
- Live surgeries performed by full-time participants ONLY
- Part-time participants are welcomed to observe the surgeries
- One on one supervision by Dr. Alan Yassin and alumni clinical instructors

Dr. Yassin is a dual trained dentist in both Periodontics and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
He attained his dental degree in 2001 from Aleppo University before receiving 4 years of extensive Oral and Maxillofacial training at Damascus Hospital! His specialty training in periodontology, along with his Master of Science in oral science was attained from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.
Dr. Yassin is a Fellow of the International Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and a Diplomat of the German Board of Oral Implantology DGZI. He has several publications and articles in refereed and in peer-reviewed journals; he also serves as a reviewer in many academic journals.
Dr. Yassin holds a teaching position at the University of Washington as an affiliate clinical assistant professor. He is also the Program Director and founder of the Implantology program of the Washington Academy of General Dentistry since 2018, in addition he actively lectures at national and international conferences and symposiums on the subject of implants and advanced esthetics/periodontal plastic surgery, in addition to rigorous online courses and webinars. He has a private practice limited to periodontics, oral surgery, and implant dentistry in Seattle, Washington.

Michi Katafuchi
DDS, PhD, MSD
Dr. Michi Katafuchi was born and raised in Nagasaki, Japan. He graduated in 2003 from Dental School in Fukuoka, Japan, where he received the Dentsply Honor Student Award for Dentistry.
From 2003-2007, Dr. Katafuchi pursued his Ph.D. thesis both at the Department of Prosthodontics at Fukuoka Dental Collage as well as The Dental Research Center of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
After receiving his Ph.D., Dr. Katafuchi joined the faculty at the Department of Prosthodontics of his alma mater in Fukuoka, where he taught the next generations of dentists and maintained his private faculty practice until 2013.
Dr. Katafuchi completed his postdoctoral training in Periodontics / Implants at the University of Washington in Seattle. He has authored several articles on bone biology and dental implants and has been invited to present in national and international meetings such as;
- The Academy of Osseointegration
- The International Symposium on Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry
- The American Academy of Periodontology
- Recognized by Seattle Mets’ as Top Dentists for 2021
Recently, he was invited to China where he shared his knowledge of computer-guided surgery with fellow colleagues in the East. This presentation and cooperation lead to the idea of forming an international Study Circle. Locally, he has taught at the University of Washington and continues to donate his time to the Dental School as an affiliate faculty member.
