This posterior implantology course is designed to provide practicing dentists with the knowledge and skills necessary to start planning and placing implants in their offices. This course will focus on treatment planning, use of CBCT imaging, intraoral scanning, planning software, and surgical guides. Extraction, bone grafting, surgical technique, and suturing will be covered.
Participants will be trained in placing Nobel Biocare implants, surgical kits, and prosthetic components. Additional topics such as periodontal considerations and implant failures/complications will be covered. Participants will learn about the latest advances in implant materials and techniques.
The course will include in-person lectures, virtual planning meetings, hands-on workshops, live patient surgeries, and case presentations with review to help dentists gain practical experience to start implementing surgical placement of implants in their offices.

Includes one to two implants per patient per surgical module (3-8 implants total), usage of onsite implant kits and surgical equipment, biological materials for patient surgery, CBCT for onsite usage, clinical team and assigned mentor throughout the program. Active dental license and proof of malpractice insurance required. Open to all in-state, out-of-state, and international dentists. No need to be an AGD member to attend. No temporary Washington State license is required.

Dentists will follow guidelines when selecting a patient from their office to participate in the implantology course. These guidelines may vary depending on the specific level of experience of the dentist and the patient. Here are some general factors to considered:
Doctors, please evaluate the patient’s general health and medical history to ensure that they are a good candidate for implant surgery. Factors such as chronic illnesses, medications, and smoking history must be considered. Patients should be ASA I or II – no ASA III patients!
Patients that require nitrous oxide, IV sedation, or general anesthesia are not appropriate candidates. Conscious sedation will be utilized only if providers on-site have appropriate training and licensure in Washington state. Appropriate patient protection protocols as stated in “Standard VII Patient Protocols” from the 2023 AGD Program Guidelines.
Doctors, please assess the patient’s oral health, including the condition of their teeth and gums, bone density, and bite alignment. Patients with existing dental issues or periodontal disease may not be suitable candidates for implant surgery.
Doctors, please choose a patient who is available and willing to participate in the course. This may involve scheduling flexibility and a commitment to attending all necessary appointments and follow-up visits.
Doctors may consider the patient’s dental history, including past treatments and procedures, as well as their current dental needs. Patients with missing teeth or damaged teeth may be more suitable candidates for implant surgery.
Overall, in selecting a patient for the posterior implantology course the doctor must consider a suitable candidate who will benefit from the implant procedure and provide a positive experience for both the dentist and the patient.
